One booking, two places to feel at home
Your accommodation booking includes the boutique hotel on Vágar and access to our family house on Mykines. Stay on Vágar throughout your visit, or arrange to spend one or two nights on Mykines.
Your preferred dates on the island are coordinated with Marit, taking the weather, ferry timetable and available tickets into account. If the outward crossing cannot go ahead, you can enjoy your stay at the boutique hotel in Miðvágur.
The Old Boutique Hotel in Miðvágur
Lace curtains, floral lamps and antique furniture give the old boutique hotel its warm, individual character. With seven bedrooms and room for up to thirteen guests, it offers a welcoming base for your time in the Faroe Islands.
Settle in, unpack and explore Vágar’s villages and landscapes, returning to familiar surroundings at the end of the day.
The Old Family House in Mykines
An overnight stay gives you time to experience another side of Mykines: quieter village lanes, an unhurried evening and a morning before the day visitors arrive. Our old family house welcomes up to ten guests, with traditional interiors, much-loved furniture and space to settle into the island’s slower rhythm.
Spend one or two nights here as part of your Magenta stay, subject to weather and transport availability.
A History of Royal Visits
Both of our houses have welcomed members of the Danish royal family.
In 1959, King Frederik IX visited the old hotel in Miðvágur with his daughter, then Princess Margrethe. Sixty-two years later, in 2021, she returned as Queen Margrethe II and stepped onto the same balcony where her father had once stood.
Our family house on Mykines also has a royal connection. In 2010, Queen Margrethe II and her husband, Prince Henrik, visited the house during their time on the island.
Your Base For Exploring the Faroe Islands
The boutique hotel is approximately ten minutes by car from Vágar Airport, around forty minutes from Tórshavn. Discover Gásadalur, Bøur, Trøllkonufingur and the lake above the sea, with its walk to Bøsdalafossur on Vágar. Or explore further afield before returning to the familiar comfort of the old boutique hotel.

Meet Marit, your host
My name is Marit Johansdóttir Magnussen. I was born and raised in the small village of Miðvágur, and I still live in my beloved hometown. With love and care, I've started a boutique hotel here, a place where guests can feel the warmth and tranquility of a true home away from home.
I’ve also always felt a deep connection to the island of Mykines, and that's why I’ve created a special family house there. This house is my sanctuary, where I find peace and happiness with my loved ones. It would be my true pleasure to share this sanctuary with my guests, welcoming them as part of the family.
I am delighted to welcome you to some special days where you will create memories for a lifetime.
